Matuszczak tabbed for CoSIDA Academic All-District team

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo senior Rafal Matuszczak was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Cross Country/Track Academic All-District team, when the full list of Academic All-District teams was released Thursday.

Matuszczak claimed All-America honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) at the 2016 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, becoming the first men's cross country All-American in Saint Leo history. He finished 39th overall at the national championship meet, completing the 10K course in 31:19.5.

Matuszczak finished sixth overall at the 2016 NCAA Division II South Region Cross Country Championship, clocking a time of 31:55.8 on the 10K course. That finish earned him USTFCCCA All-South Region honors for the second straight year.

During this spring's outdoor track season, Matuszczak was a provisional qualifier to the 2017 NCAA track championships in the 10,000m.

The 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Men's Track/Cross Country Academic All-District teams are selected by the districts' sports information directors to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
