Women’s XC cracks top 25; men’s XC climbs in South Region

Saint Leo women's cross country earns the program's first national ranking by cracking the top 25, while men's cross country climbs one spot to No. 3 in the South Region poll.

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's cross country cracked the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Top 25 Coaches poll on Wednesday, the first time either Saint Leo cross country program has been nationally ranked.

Saint Leo checked in at No. 25 in the Division II poll with 18 points, trailing 24th-ranked Augustana (S.D.) by just one point.

"This is the first top 25 ranking in our program's history, and all the credit goes to our women," said Kent Reiber, Saint Leo head men's and women's cross country coach. "These ladies have been working hard all year, and earning this ranking proves that their dedication to our training plan is paying off. I'm very proud of each individual as they all continue to get better every race."

"This is just the beginning for these ladies as we are making a big push over the next few weeks in order to defend our home course on November 19," added Reiber.

In the USTFCCCA South Region rankings, Saint Leo women's cross country held onto the top spot as the top five in the South remained unchanged: Saint Leo, followed by Lee (Tenn.), Union (Tenn.), Tampa, and West Alabama.

Saint Leo men's cross country climbed one spot in the South Region, checking in at No. 3. Lee (Tenn.) continued to be ranked No. 1 in the South, followed by Florida Southern, Saint Leo, West Florida, and Alabama-Huntsville.

Saint Leo will host its Division II National Preview meet this Saturday, Oct. 8, at The Abbey Golf Course adjacent to the Saint Leo campus; The Abbey course will also play host to the Division II South Region Championships on November 5, as well as the Division II National Championships on November 19.
