Men’s Cross Country Claims Third at FSU Invitational

Tallahassee, Fla. – Four Lions placed in the top 20, helping the Saint Leo men's cross country team claim third place overall in the non-Division I group on Friday evening at the FSU Invitational.  Saint Leo posted an overall score of 91 out of a field of 12 teams.

Rafal Matuszczak led the team with an 8K time of 25:39.16.  Valentin Lenz was close behind, claiming a 12th place time of 25:45.

Carl Dunne was three spots back, finishing at the 25:50.83 mark, good for 15th overall, followed by Niclas Bez in 19th place with an overall time of 26:00.95.

James Mullin was next in line for the Lions, crossing the line at 26:41.42, followed closely by Christopher Westfall two seconds later with a time of 26:43.67.

Rafael Lohner completed the course with an overall time of 27:06.67, with Brian Haynes crossing next for the Lions with a course time of 27:16.89.

Steven Brown earned a time of 28:27.17, and was immediately followed by David Hill with a completion time of 28:29.96.  Kyle Vanburen was two spots back, picking up a time of 28:32.36, with David Gardner on his heels with a time of 28:33.68.

Adam Urbaniak was next for the Green and Gold, crossing the finish line with a time of 28:47.91, while Kevin Papac earned a time of 29:42.73.  Matt Basin rounded out the squad with a course time of 30:25.35.

Florida Southern grabbed first place in the non-Division I category with 70 points overall, followed by Alabama-Huntsville with 79 points.  Vincent Bett from Embry-Riddle finished first out of the non-DI runners, crossing the line with a time of 25:00.18.

The Lions return to action on Saturday, October 26, when they run in the 2013 Sunshine State Conference Championship meet.  Saint Leo will be the host institution for this year's championships, which will be held at The Abbey Golf Course, across the street from University Campus.
