Men’s Cross Country Earns Sixth Place at Mt. Dew Invite

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two Lions earned top-ten finishes and a new 8k program best was set at the Mountain Dew Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida, helping the Saint Leo men's cross country team to a sixth place finish overall on Saturday morning at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.

Freshman Rafal Matuszczak took home the Lions' top time and set a new program record, crossing the finish line with an 8k time of 25:20.31, good for fourth place in the meet's college division.  Sophomore Carl Dunne was steps behind his teammate, collecting a sixth place time of 25:35.30, and shattering his previous best of 26:04.07 set at last year's invitational.

Freshman Christopher Westfall crossed the tape with a time of 28:01.92, followed by James Mullin and Adam Urbaniak with times of 28:22.66 and 28:41.50, respectively.

Steven Brown earned a finish time of 28:48.94, followed by David Hill and Patrick Hill with back-to-back times of 29:02.40 and 29:02.82.  Brian Haynes was close behind, crossing the line with a mark of 29:07.01.

Matthew Basin ran the course with a time of 30:27.36, and was immediately followed by teammate David Gardner, who crossed the finish at 30:31.13.  Senior Kevin Papac rounded out the squad with an 8k time of 31:14.16.

The Lions return to action on Friday, September 20, when they take part in the National Catholic Championships hosted by the University of Notre Dame.  Start time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
