SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University and Head Cross Country Coach Melissa Miller-Mangen has declared the third installment of the Alumni 5K run as a success.
The race took place on Saturday, March 3, with the course bringing entrants through a pair of 1.5 mile loops through campus before finishing with a 200 meter sprint to the finish.
Seeing 32 registered participants take part in the event, the weekend occasion welcomed-back many past runners, as well as introducing many new alumni runners from as far as Oregon.
Being recognized for their continued support of the run was Nan Ward and Patricia Nee as they participated for the third consecutive year. Dr. Aliya Redwood, Dana Graham, and Lakan Cruz are second-year partakers.
2012 Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Katie Heintz was the top women's alumni finisher as she posted a time of 24:25. Meanwhile, Kyle Gramm received top honors for the first men's alumni finisher at 22:57.
The Masters division saw Dr. Isaac Vergara take top honors on the men's side with a time of 27:20, while Nan Ward paced the field at 29:02.
Overall, Saint Leo women's swimmer Allison Cary posted the best women's time as she sprinted the course in a time of 23:10. Gabe Keown registered the top men's time at 20:07.
Miller-Mangen and Saint Leo University will host the fourth alumni run on Saturday April 13, 2013.
