Cross Country Opens Spring Season at USF Open
Lions Begin Spring Tune-Up Sessions
TAMPA, Fla. –The Saint Leo cross country team opened its non-championship season at the University of South Florida Open, last Friday from the USF campus in Tampa.
Taking a break from the normal long distance races, the Lions participated in multiple track and field events.
Several Lions performed well at the event, including Jon Norris for the men and Andrea Maxwell for the women.
In the 800 meter, Maxwell finished six seconds off the lead pace as she concluded the run third of 15 runners. Lee Ann Antuna, Elyse Snyder, and Melissa Goldstein also had solid showings in their first track meets.
Meanwhile, in the men's 3000 meter, Norris posted a sixth-place finish with a time of 9:04.82.
Likewise, the Lions trio of David Malys, Carson Holton, and Dylan Richardson also registered solid performances.
In addition, the women's 4x400 Relay group of Jillian Browne, Mariah Moss, Maxwell, and Antuna, were edged by Warner at the end with a time of 4:38.56.
The Lions will now prepare for thet UCF Invitational. The University of Central Florida run is set for March 25-26 from Orlando, Fla.
