SAINT LEO, Fla. (May 29, 2014) – The Saint Leo department of athletics continues to build upon its most successful year in program history, this time with men's cross country and track teams earning yet another program first.  Sophomores Valentin Lenz and Carl Dunne have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Thursday, May 29.

This marks the first Academic All-District selections for the cross country and track programs.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® or Academic All-District® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his or her current institution, and be nominated by his or her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

Lenz had a breakout fall season, earning All-Conference and All-Region honors, while also being named the USTFCCCA South Region Runner of the year.  The Dusseldorf, Germany native helped the Lions to their first ever NCAA National Championship appearance, marking the first time a men's program from Saint Leo attended a national championship meet as a team.  The Accounting and Economics major is a two-time member of the President's Club, and earned Academic All-Region and Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Role honors.

Dunne made just as much of an impact, earning All-Conference and All-Region honors while winning the individual title at the 2013 Sunshine State Conference Championship meet.  Dunne's efforts helped the Lions to Nationals, where his hard work helped the Lions earn a 26th place team finish overall.  In the classroom, the Accounting and Economics major was named the 2013-14 Saint Leo Student-Athlete of the Year, and has been a four time member of the President's Club while earning Commissioner's Honor Role, Dean's List, and Academic All-Region honors.
