Four Lions Named to USTFCCCA All-Region Team

Agyemang-Duah, Matuszczak, Tancic and Maxwell tabbed in track program's first year 

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Four Saint Leo University track athletes were named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-South Region team in the program's first year of existence. 

Herns Agyemang-Duah and Rafal Matuszczak received the honor on the men's side, and Jelena Tancic and Andrea Maxwell were named on the women's side. 

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned the All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top three relay teams. 

Men's All-Region awards went to 646 different student-athletes, who combined for 905 total awards.

The women saw 619 separate competitors accumulate 911 total honors. 

Agyemang-Duah, who is competing in his first year of track at any level, was named as a recipient in both the 400 meters and the 800 meters. 

In the 400, Agyemang-Duah had the fourth fastest time in the event in the south region, and made a name for himself in his first-ever race posting a time of 49.5. 

In the 800 meters he finished second in the south region and recorded the 24th fastest time in the country. Agyemang-Duah made Lions' athletics history on Saturday, April 26, when he became the first track athlete to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships, doing so in the 800. 

During the season, season Agyemang-Duah recorded three first place finishes and a ninth place finish in his four 800-meter starts. 

Matuszczak was named to the All-Region team in the 10,000-meter run. He finished first in the event in the south region beating the second place finisher by almost 30 seconds. 

Tancic, like Agyemang-Duah, was honored in multiple events; the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter run. 

In the 1,500, Tancic finished third in the south region. In the 5,000 meters, she came close to capturing the top time in the south region in her 17:43.11 debut. 

Maxwell earned All-Region honors in the 800 meters finishing fifth in the south. 

The USTFCCCA is a non-profit professional organization representing cross country and track & field coaches of all levels. The organization represents over 8,000 coaching members encompassing 94% of all NCAA track & field programs (DI, DII, and DIII) and includes members representing the NAIA as well as a number of state high school coaches associations.
