Men's tennis takes down Florida Tech, 8-1, to open SSC play

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 2 Saint Leo men's tennis team took down Florida Tech, 8-1, to open Sunshine State Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at the Saint Leo Tennis Center.

The Lions opened up the match with a 3-0 lead following doubles play.

The French duo of Thomas Grinberg and Vincent Suillerot dominated at No.1 doubles, taking down Aria Canadell and Ricardo Corona, 8-1.

Saint Leo also saw Francisco Aparicio and Charles Benet follow with an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

The pair of Jaime Bueno and Oskar Nurmio also picked up a point for the team, taking an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Grinberg took the No. 1 flight, 6-4, 6-2. His doubles partner in Suillerot added a 7-6, 6-1 victory at No. 2 flight.

Bueno added a win by retirement, while Benet snagged a squeaker of a win, 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 (12-10).

Willen Van den Akker earned his first win of the season, coming back from a 6-3 first set loss, to take the match 6-4, 7-6.

James Finnigan took No. 6 flight over Chadi Omeis with a 6-2, 7-5 win.

Saint Leo is back in action on Feb. 16 as they take on Eckerd in a 3 p.m. match.
