Tennis' Bueno and Nurmio move on to day three

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Saint Leo tennis finished day two of the 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships, hosted by Florida Southern, on Saturday afternoon.

On the men's side, Jaime Bueno and Oskar Nurmio teamed up to advance to the quarterfinal in the doubles bracket following an 8-1 win over Ahmed Albitar and Ziad Melhaoul from Rollins. On Sunday, the duo will face Charlos Gomez and Vivien Versler from Barry. The pairi­ng of James Defusto and Chadi Omeis withdrew due to injury.

In singles action, the lone Lion playing was Charles Benet. He topped West Florida's Pedro Dumont, 1-6, 6-2, 10-7, before falling to Patrick Snell of Rollins, 6-2, 6-0.

On the women's side, the team saw the pairing of Anastasia Wagner and Katherine Zaatini fall, 8-4, to the duo of Paula Coyos and Paula Lopez from West Florida. Marine Beugre-Guyot and Madeline Gauthier lost a hard fought battle, 9-8 (7-4), to Tereza Hejlova and Stephanie Stemmer from Lynn.

On the singles side of things, Beugre-Guyot opened with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Amina Mukhametanina, before falling to Bea Morales, 6-4, 6-2. Wagner fell to the No. 2-seed Diana Bogoli,  6-1, 6-3.

In the consolation bracket, Gauthier fell to Alahna Reto, 0-6, 6-1, 10-5, wrapping up her singles play.
