ITA Release

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's tennis team was honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association by earning 2016 All-Academic Team honors for their success in the classroom during the 2015-16 academic year.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is given to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above on a 4.00 scale. All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year, including fall 2015 and spring 2016.

The Lions, who finished as National Runner-up in the 2016 NCAA Tennis Championships, also saw six individuals earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.

To earn the Scholar-Athlete nod, a student-athlete must have been a varsity letter winner, maintained at least a 3.5 GPA, and have been enrolled for at least two semesters. Saint Leo saw seniors Fons Verberne and Guillaume Vanelven, sophomores James Defusto and Jaime Bueno, and freshmen Elliot Carnello and Alberto Barroso-Campos earn the honor.

The Lions join the six other Sunshine State Conference programs in earning this award.
