Lions earn #1 seed, set to host NCAA South Regional 1

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's tennis team earned the No. 1 ranking in the South Region on Tuesday evening and will be hosting Lynn, West Florida, and Benedict, in the 2016 NCAA DII Tennis Championship – South Regional 1, over May 8 and 9.

The Lions will play Benedict, the No. 8 seed in the first round. West Florida and Lynn will also be playing in the South Regional 1, as the No. 4 and 5 seeds respectively. The winners of both opening round matches will advance to Monday's match.

Saint Leo, the No. 1 team in the nation, enters the NCAA tournament with a 22-1 record, and both a Sunshine State Conference regular season title, and SSC Tournament title under their belt.

The Lions have a 12-0 record against South Region opponents, including beating both Lynn, twice, and West Florida in the regular season. Benedict will be a first-time opponent for the Lions this season.

This marks the first time the Saint Leo men's tennis team has earned the No. 1 seed in the South Region in the NCAA Tournament. More information on specifics for the regional will come in following days.
