Panyushkin earns SSC Tennis Athlete of the Week honors

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Senior Egor Panyushkin of the No. 2 Saint Leo men's tennis team was name the Sunshine State Conference Male Tennis Athlete of the Week after his performances against No. 6 Embry-Riddle and Palm Beach Atlantic.

Panyushkin went 4-0 this week, helping the Lions finish the regular season with a 20-1 record. The Lions opened with a 5-1 win over #6 Embry-Riddle, and followed with a 9-0 sweep of PBA. He paired with Jaime Bueno for an 8-4 upset take-down of the No. 21 nationally-ranked doubles pairing over Fabian Sierleyn and Carlos Becke from ERAU. He then added a 6-2, 6-2 win in singles as well.

Against Palm Beach Atlantic on Senior Day, he again paired with Bueno for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Then in singles, he won 6-1, 6-1.

Panyushkin joins Alberto Barroso-Campos (2/15, 3/7, 3/14) and Jaime Bueno (4/4) as Lions who have been honored as Male Tennis Athlete of the Week. This was Panyushkin's first career honor.

The Lions return to action on Friday, April 29 with a 2 p.m. showdown with the winner of Rollins and Florida Southern in the SSC Tournament Semifinals.
