Bueno earns first SSC weekly honor

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 2 Saint Leo men's tennis team earned is fourth Sunshine State Conference Male Tennis Athlete of the Week honor of the season on Monday, as sophomore Jaime Bueno picked up the award after helping the Lions to a 2-0 record this week.

The Lions topped SSC foe Rollins College, 7-2. Bueno paired with teammate Egor Panyushkin to win the No. 2 doubles spot, 8-5, and then Bueno dominated Rollins' Hayden Rodrigue, 6-3, 6-0.

In Saint Leo's first ever victory on No. 9 Lynn University's home court, Bueno again went 2-0, including sealing the match for the Lions with his victory. As Bueno teamed with Panyushkin once again, the duo took down the No.25 nationally-ranked pairing of Pavel Mojiha and Daniel Riggs, 8-2.

In singles action, a 6-1, 7-5 win by Bueno in the No. 4 singles spot clinched the match.

Bueno joins teammate Alberto Barroso-Campos, who has won the award three times this season, in earned the weekly honor.

Saint Leo will host No. 7 Barry on Friday, April 8 at 1 p.m.
