Lions best Lynn in Top-10 showdown

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 2 Saint Leo men's tennis team took down No. 9 Lynn University, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon, claiming the Lions first ever road win versus the Fighting Knights.

The Lions moved to 14-1, 3-0 in Sunshine State Conference play.

Saint Leo opened with a 2-1 lead after the doubles action as the pairing of Egor Panyushkin and Jaime Bueno gave the first point, claiming an 8-2 win over the No. 25-ranked pairing of Pavel Mojiha and Daniel Riggs.

Alberto Barroso-Campos and Alex Theiler tagged on an 8-5 win in the No. 1 double match up, while Lynn gained their first in the No. 3 doubles.

Barroso-Campos added another point for Saint Leo, gaining the first singles point with a 6-0, ret., win over Riggs in No. 1 singles.

Theiler, who is the No. 17-ranked singles individual, earned a statement win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 19 Majiha.

The Lions sealed the match on a 6-1, 7-6 win by Bueno. 

Lynn added their points with wins in the No. 3, 5, and 6 singles.

Saint Leo will host No. 7 Barry on Friday, April 8 at 1 p.m.
