#7 Lions sweep Metro State in snowy Denver

DENVER, Colo. - The No. 7 Saint Leo men's tennis team took the courts indoors in snowy Denver on Friday evening and while the Denver residents are breaking out their shovels, the Lions broke out the brooms, sweeping Metro State, 9-0.

Saint Leo opened the match with a sweep of doubles, letting no more than three points be scored in any slot.

The No. 1 pairing of Alberto Barroso-Campos and Alex Theiler took down Metro State's Marty Lukosiunas and Parker Jones, 8-3, while Fons Verberne and Francisco Aparicio took the No. 2 spot on Verberne's ace, 8-2. Egor Panyushkin and Oskar Nurmio teamed up for the first time this season in the No. 3 spot for an 8-2 win as well.

Jaime Bueno and Barroso-Campos made quick work of their opponents to seal the match. Bueno took out Sam Stember in the No. 4 slot, 6-1, 6-0. Barroso-Campos took down Jones in the No. 1 slot, 6-1, 6-1.

Verberne followed with a quick win in the No. 6 spot, taking it 6-2, 6-1. Theiler added a 6-0, 6-3 win for the Lions' seventh point.

Elliot Carnello claimed the eighth point for Saint Leo, taking No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Panyushkin finished the evening, giving the Lions the sweep, with a 6-3, 6-0, win.

Saint Leo returns to action on Saturday with a 6 p.m. match up with No. 2 Hawaii Pacific.
