Barroso-Campos continues to impress, earns third SSC weekly honor

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Freshman Alberto Barroso-Campos continues to impress during his inaugural campaign, going undefeated over four matches, to earn his third Sunshine State Conference Male Tennis Athlete of the Week honor for matches played March 7-13.

Barroso-Campos went 8-0 over the week, dominating at both the No. 1 singles and doubles spot.

Against Ferris State, he won 6-1, 6-1,in singles, and 9-7 in double, pairing with Alex Thieler to help take down Ferris, 9-0, as a team.

In the 7-2 win over No. 8 Concordia (N.Y), Barroso-Campos, who is currently the No. 3 individual in DII, topped the No. 9 individual, Jui Mao, 6-1, 6-4. In doubles, again with Thieler as the No. 7 pairing in the nation, Barroso-Campos topped the No. 1 doubles team in DII, 8-6.

The Lions then hosted the No. 2 NAIA team Auburn-Montgomery, winning 7-2. Again, Barroso-Campos won both his singles and doubles matches. He won No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3,and with Theiler, the win came in the No. 1 doubles as well, going 8-4.

In the final match of the week, the Lions took down #20 North Georgia, 7-2. Barroso-Campos took a 6-1, 6-2win in the No.1 singles match. And again with Theiler, the duo won 8-3.

The Lions are now 9-0 on the season heading into a showdown on Tuesday morning with No. 4 West Florida, who is 10-0.
