Saint Leo tops Auburn Montgomery, 7-2

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's tennis team took down the visiting NAIA foe Auburn Montgomery, 7-2, on Friday afternoon in the Lions second match in as many days.

Saint Leo opened with a 2-1 lead in the first, taking both the No. 1 and No. 3 match-ups. Alberto Barroso-Campos and Alex Theiler took the No. 1 spot, 8-4, while Francisco Aparicio and Fons Verberne took the No.3 by the same score.

In singles play, Barroso-Campos remained perfect in individual play, winning over Francisco Mendieta, 6-2, 6-3. Theiler added a 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot, while Egor Panyushkin added a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 3 spot. Jaime Bueno won in a fight, 7-6 (7), 6-0.

In the No. 5 and 6 slots, Verberne added an 8-4 win, while Oskar Nurmio added an 8-3 loss.

Both the men's and women's will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, with a time change. Both matches will take place at 10 a.m. as the men play North Georgia and the women play Northeastern State.
