Lions sweep Eckerd to remain perfect

SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's tennis team defeated Eckerd College, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon to remain perfect on the season, boasting a 5-0 record.

The Lions swept doubles with the paring of Egor Panyushkin and Guillaume Vanelven finish first with an 8-1 win over Eddie Lewis and Jonathan Cheng. Alberto Barroso-Campos and Alex Theiler topped Victor Appelqvist and Yosua Husodo, 8-2, in the No. 1 doubles pairing. Francisco Aparicio and Fons Verberne topped James McManus and Frazier Springfield, 8-4.

Saint Leo saw the singles win in 1-2-3 fashion as Barroso-Campos picked up the No. 1 single win, 6-1, 6-1, over Appelqvist for the first singles points, and Jaime Bueno sealed the match with a win in the No. 2 slot over Lewis, 6-2, 6-0. A win in the No. 3 slot followed as Oskar Nurmio topped McManus, 6-4, 6-2. Aparicio took the final full match for the Lions, downing Cheng, 6-3, 6-1.

Elliot Carnello topped Springfield, 8-0, while James Defusto topped Rober Vazquez, 8-0 as well.

Lions host Ferris State on Wedensday, March 9 at 2 P.M.
