Lions bolster roster with new additions

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's tennis team heads into the spring season with three new faces in Thomas Grinberg, Vincent Suillerot, and Elliot Carnello, and returns, Jaime Bueno.

"Having Thomas and Vincent on board this semester is tremendous for the program in both the short and long term," head coach Chris Frusci said of his newest additions. "Their slew of experience and success will be vital to making our guys better and helping continue raising the profile of our program. Players like this are hard to come by and we're very happy to have them here."

"Elliott is another great addition to our program as his athleticism and work ethic are his biggest assets. He also has a lot of experience playing futures tournaments and should make an immediate impact for us, especially in singles. It is also great to have Jaime back eligible and healthy. Jaime's strengths are his ability to step out of his comfort zone day in and out as well as his physical style of play. He will make an immediate impact in both doubles and singles."

Grinberg, a native of Vincennes, France, comes to the Lions with an Association of Tennis Professionals ranking of 876, having taken down ATP 207 Laurent Lokoli in January 2014, and Tallon Griekspoor, an ATP Top-600, in straight-sets. He also holds a career-high French ranking of -30.

Suillerot, a native of Fontenay Sous Bois, France, comes to Saint Leo with an ATP ranking of 1644, and currently holds his best French ranking at -4/6.

Carnello enters with a Swedish National ranking career-high of 24 at the U18 level, and a 142 at the Men's Open level in all of Sweden. He adds an ITF Junior ranking of 1282.

Bueno returns to the roster after taking the last year off from competition. He has earned a career-high 1414 ATP ranking, and has a notable win over Felipe Matilla, currently 567 in ATP, in straight sets.

The program heads into the season as the ITA No. 7 ranked team in the nation, and have scheduled themselves a tough go, facing the nine other Top-10 teams, and six more Top-50 teams.

They will begin action on Feb. 6 as they head to Valdosta, Ga., for a neutral sight game against Georgia College.
