Barroso-Campos earns Saint Leo's second ITA Regional Champion

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Saint Leo tennis team made history on monday, claiming its first ever ITA Regional Champion with a win on the women's side. Due to weather, the men's championship moved to the campus of Rollins College, and Saint Leo once again made history as freshman Alberto Barroso-Campos topped Anton Rettink of Rollins College, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 2-0 ret, for Saint Leo's first ever men's regional champion.

"It's an incredible feeling to have two regional champions," said head coach Chris Frusci after claiming his two regional champions this week. "Alberto played against one of the best players in the country and showed tremendously resiliency. He faced two match points and played some of his best tennis on those crucial points. For a freshman to be able to show that mental toughness and confidence is not common. We knew the longer the match, it would favor Alberto, so we told him to try to extend the points and wear his opponent out. He was so happy and it was a great feeling for the program. We are so looking forward to see what he will do at a national level."

Barroso-Campos will be one of eight Division II players, and the only one from the south region in singles play to represent at the national level. He will play at the ITA National Small College Championships in Sumter, S.C. from October 15-18.
