Tennis sends two to  2015 USTA/ITA Division II South Region Championships matches

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The 2015 USTA/ITA Division II South Region Championships have just two matches left, the men's and women's championship games, and the Saint Leo Lions will have representatives from both the men's and women's tennis teams.

Day Three Highlights
Men's

  • Alberto Barroso-Campos took down the No. 1 seed in the tournament, Ahmed Triki of Barry University, in a long hard fought battle on Sunday Morning. The Lions' newcomer took down the favorite winning the first set 6-4, dropping the second 5-7, then winning the tie-breaker 10-5.
  • Barroso-Campos, following his grueling individuals match, paired up with teammate Alex Theiler in the doubles championship. The duo battle hard versus the tournament No. 2 seed pairing of Kenny Brasil and Alex Peyrot of the host school West Florida. The Lions took the opening set 6-3, the UWF pair took the second set, 7-6 (6). Then in the tie-breaker, UWF took the win, by the slightest of margins, 12-10, despite seven match points for the Lions.

Women's

  • Natalia Siedliska, Saint Leo's highest ranked player in the tournament, entered the tournament at the No. 3 seed. Now she will represent Saint Leo in the championship of the women's singles following a dominant performance over Diana Bogolii of Lynn University. Siedliska took the match, 6-3, 6-1.
  • Marine Beugre-Guyot fell in the semifinals to Avaeve Pain of Barry, 6-4, 6-1.

 

Day Two Draws
Men's

  • Barroso-Campos will face the tournament No. 2 seed Anton Bettink of Rollins in the Championship. The winner will go on will advance to the ITA National Small College Championships in Sumter, S.C. from October 15-18.

Women's

  • Siedliska will take on Pain from Barry in the Championship on Monday, at 9 a.m. The winner will go on will advance to the ITA National Small College Championships in Sumter, S.C. from October 15-18.
