SKILLMAN, N.J. - A week after earning South Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors, Saint Leo men's tennis assistant coach Martin Parkes was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II National Assistant Coach of the Year, as announced at the NCAA Division II Tennis Championship banquet, Wednesday evening.

Parkes was selected from a group of eight regional recipients and was honored for his efforts in assisting the nation's No. 5 ranked Lions.

With the help of Parkes, the Saint Leo men's tennis squad was able to continue its national prominence, earning the program a postseason berth in the South Region.  The Green and Gold concluded the season with a 16-6 record, a campaign that included the program's first-ever victory over Lynn University and finished the year competing in the South Region final, another first in Saint Leo history.

The award marks the first National Assistant Coach of the Year honor for Saint Leo since the award's inception in 2009. Previous men's assisant coach Beth Daub was honored as the South Region's top assistant for the 2012 season as the Lions only other regional recipient.
