Men's Tennis falls 5-1 to No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Meeting the top-ranked NAIA program, the No. 8 Saint Leo University men's tennis team fell 5-1 to Georgia Gwinnett College in a midweek showdown at the Saint Leo Tennis Complex.

The Lions drop to 8-3 on the season while the Grizzlies improve to 7-1 on their 2015 campaign.

Saint Leo tandem Alex Theiler and Bruno Sisti earned the Lions lone victory of the match, battling Matias Hatem and Luke Morland to a 9-8(7-5) win in doubles action.  The Grizzlies claimed the remaining two doubles matchups to enter singles play with a 2-1 advantage.

GGC's Kevin Konfederak bested Theiler 6-3 and 7-6(7-5) before No. 7 Hatem beat Netanel Alcabas by 6-2 and 6-1 scores. Grizzlies player and No. 43 ranked NAIA singles athlete, Connor Clements ended the match after defeating Guillaume Vanelven by 7-6(7-3) and 6-2 sets.  Georgia Gwinnett took the contest by a 5-1 final score.

The Green and Gold will travel to Winter Park, Fla. to meet No. 10 Rollins College for a Thursday matchup, scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
