Lions duel Abraham Baldwin to an 8-1 win

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Bouncing back in its first home contest of the season, the Saint Leo University men's tennis team defeated Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 8-1 on Friday afternoon at the Saint Leo Tennis Complex.  The Lions improve to 2-1 on the season after the convincing victory while ABAC returns home with a 0-2 season tally.

In the top flight, Alex Theiler defeated the No. 2 ranked junior college men's tennis player, Joshua Page. Theiler outdueled Page, 7-5 and 6-3 after teaming up with Bruno Sisti to defeat the tandem of Page and Austin Smith.

In the remaining doubles matches, the duo of Fons Verberne and Guillaume Vanelven battled Ryan Reeves and Ray Donovan to an 8-4 win while Egor Panyushkin and Netanel Alcabas teamed up to defeat Deepak Vishavkama and Nathan Palmer (8-5).  The Lions swept all three doubles matches to enter the singles round, 3-0.

In singles play, Alcabas swept Vishavkama by a 6-4 and 6-2 score in the second bout while Vanelven beat Donovan by 6-4 and 6-3 scores.

Abraham Baldwin's Austin Smith defeated Verberne 7-6(6), 6-3 and 1-0(4) to earn ABAC's lone win.  Sisti outdueled Palmer in straight-sets, taking a pair of 6-2 wins.  Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio took the final matchup over Hayden Victor by 6-1 and 6-2 scores.

The Lions will continue their home contests by kicking-off Sunshine State Conference play with a matchup against Lynn University on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m.
