Sisti battles past Barry to draw finals

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Senior Bruno Sisti defeated Barry's Franco Echenique to advance to the final matchup of his draw at the Florida Gulf Coast University Invitational.  The Saint Leo University men's tennis team finishes day two of the tournament with a finals berth.

Sisti concluded the second day of the tournament with a 7-6(4) and 6-3 sweep of Echenique to advance to the final match against FGCU's Beiler.

Barry gained redemption in the B draw, as Kevin Sielmann defeated Egor Panyushkin 6-0 and 6-2 to eliminate the Saint Leo junior.  Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio met a similar demise at the hands of Fabian Pronnet.  The senior battled, but was unable to overcome the Buccaneer, losing by a 3-6, 6-7(1) score.

Pedro Gonzalez and Sam El Nehmani were eliminated from the E draw, as Barry's Cruz bested Gonzalez by scores of 7-5, 3-6 and 6-3.  El Nehmani fell 7-6(4) and 6-2 to Cronin of Nicholls.

In doubles action, tandem James Defusto and Oskar Nurmio defeated the Boston College duo of Thirouin and Mullins 8-5.  Senior Fons Verberne and Guillaume Vanelven fell to the Sielmann/Lombardi duo of Barry by an 8-4 score after defeating the Van Cott brothers of Tulane 8-7(3).

The Lions will conclude the tournament on Sunday, as Sisti battles for the top spot in his draw.
