Five Lions advance to FGCU Invite semifinals

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men's tennis team completed the first day of the Florida Gulf Coast University Invitational tournament with four players going undefeated.

Junior Egor Panyushkin will advance to the semifinal matchup of his draw after besting Gamble of Princeton University by scores of 3-6, 6-3 and 7-5.  The Moscow, Russia native turned a 6-2, 1-6 and 6-4 win over Tulane's Van Cott to enter the semifinal of the B draw. Panyushkin will face familiar foe from Barry University's Kevin Sielmann in day two of play.

Senior Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio found similar success in the C draw as he defeated both Herrerias of Arkansas 6-4 and 7-6(5) and McNulty of Boston College (6-3, 4-6, 6-3).  Gonzalez-Tarrio will meet Barry's Fabian Pronnet in the day two semifinal match.

Saint Leo tennis junior Bruno Sisti will also meet a Barry Buccaneer in his semifinal showdown.  Sisti made quick work of his first two opponents, sweeping Sneddon of Tulane and El Tonbari of Princeton.  The junior will battle Franco Echinique in day two of the tournament for the D draw semifinal.

Sophomore Sam El Nehmani won his matchup against FGCU's Chaffin while Pedro Gonzalez took his E draw contest over Colvee of Texas-Arlington.  El Nehmani won by scores of 2-6, 6-2 and 6-4 while Gonzalez swept the opposition behind a 6-3/6-3 performance.

The Lions continue the tournament Saturday as the team plays five semifinal matchups.
