Lions finish the first day of the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's tennis program faced a strong pool of opponents in the first day of the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational hosted by Rollins College, Friday.

Junior Bruno Sisti defeated Frenando Arroyo of Palm Beach Atlantic in his first match of play, taking the contest with a 6-2 and 6-0 sweep.  Pedro Gonzalez edged Guilherme Dumit by scores of 6-2, 2-6, and 11-9 to advance in his bracket.

Lions' Egor Panyushkin fell to Fabian Pronnet while senior Fons Verberne dropped his matchup against Gabriel Sciacca Diaz.  Both will head to the consolation round of play.

Lynn's Pavel Mojha defeated Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio in Flight B while Guillaume Vanelven lost to Laic Blanco in his draw.

Saint Leo will look to rebound in day two of the tournament, resuming Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.
