Gonzalez-Tarrio advances to consolation final of ITA Regionals

LAKELAND, Fla. – After a rain-delayed weekend of play, the UTSA/ITA South Regional Championship hosted by Florida Southern College finished Monday afternoon.  The Saint Leo University men's tennis team ended the tournament with a consolation final appearance.

"The tournament was a great atmosphere as many of the best players in the country are in our region. As a whole, we didn't perform to the expectations that we are capable of but we will look to focus on the positives," said head coach Chris Frusci.  "We definitely improved our level and know what we need to work on moving forward. Playing your best tennis in September is not as important as it is in February and March so we have some time to get there."

In the men's consolation singles final, Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio fell to Juan Pablo Boada of West Florida by match scores of 6-2 and 6-0 to conclude the tournament.

Gonzalez-Tarrio advanced to the final after facing a familiar opponent in fellow teammate Guillaume Vanelven in the semifinals.  The Saint Leo matchup saw Gonzalez-Tarrio edge Vanelven by scores of 1-6, 7-6 and 11-9.
