Saint Leo men's tennis concludes day one of ITA South Regional play

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men's tennis team concluded a weather-delayed day one of the UTSA/ITA Men's South Regional Championships hosted by Florida Southern College on Friday. 

Fons Verberne and Egor Panyushkin earned spots in the round of 32 before the weather postponed the second bout until Saturday morning.

Verberne posted a convincing win over Romar Hernandez of West Alabama, by scores of 6-1 both contests.  Panyushkin notched a match win over Palm Beach Atlantic foe Nicholas Battistini in familiar 6-1 and 6-1 fashion.  Both advance to the second round of play as Verberne will meet Nicolas Uryson of PBA while Panyshkin will face FSC's Arthur Viallaneix.

Heading to the consolation round are Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio and Guillaume Vanelven.  Gonzalez-Tarrio suffered a 6-3 and 6-1 loss to Barry's Franco Echenique in the first round while Vanelven dropped the premier round by game scores of 6-3 and 7-6 (10-5) to Joe Schemm of Valdosta State.

In doubles action, the tandem of Gonzalez-Tarrio and Verberne earned a spot in the second round after defeating Barry duo Echinique and Nico Dreer, 8-5.  They advance to play UWF's Alex Peyrot and Warren Khun in day two on Saturday.
