Fourth-Ranked Lions Conclude 2014 Regular Season with 5-1 Victory over No. 44 FIT
Lions Clinch Victory in Five, with Three Matches Going Unfinished
SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Saint Leo men's tennis team concluded its 2014 regular season campaign with a record of 17-4, and 3-3 in Sunshine State Conference action with a 5-1 win over No. 44 Florida Tech on Sunday at the DeSoto Tennis Courts. The loss drops FIT to a mark of 7-11 and 1-4 in conference play to conclude their regular season schedule.
The Lions took a 2-1 lead after doubles as Matt Nicholson-Lewis and Victor Lozier defeated Riley Lorenz and Zach Eichholz 8-1 at the No. 2 positions. Ismail Lemtouni and Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio tooks down Daniel Armellino and Bruno Rodrigues in the third flight by a final tally of 8-4, while the No. 23 tandem of Patrick Hernandez and Wade Ball defeated Aloua Adjenak and Bruno Sisti by a hard-fought total of 9-8 at No. 1 doubles.
Nicholson-Lewis made easy work of Lorenz at the third seed in singles play, earning a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Fons Verberne won at No. 6 singles, defeating Jose Martinez 6-3, 6-0.
Gonzalez-Tarrio earned a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles over Daniel Armellino.
No. 40 Adjenak took the first set in the top-seed of singles play, 6-2, but Hernandez battled back to earn the second set 6-3 before the match went unfinished. At the No. 2 slot, Sisti earned the first set over Beau Fieldsend, 6-3, and the match went unfinished with Sisti holding onto a 3-2 advantage in the second set.
Oskar Nurmio was up 6-4, 4-0 at the No. 5 slot over Ball, before the match went unfinished as the Lions were the first to reach five matches.
