Fourth-Ranked Lions Fall to No. 20 Tars, 6-3

Saint Leo Sees Eight-Game Win Streak Snapped by Rollins

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Saint Leo men's tennis team was toppled by No. 20 Rollins College on Friday evening at the Saint Leo Tennis Center, falling to the Tars by a final score of 6-3.  The loss snaps an eight-match win streak for the Lions,  and drops their record to 15-4, and 2-3 in Sunshine State Conference action.  The Tars advance their mark to 10-9, and 3-2 in SSC action.

Saint Leo found themselves down 3-0 after a drawn out, hard fought battle in doubles play.  Adrian Di Felice and Robin Marchione defeated Fons Verberne and Ismail Lemtouni, 8-6 at No. 3 doubles to open the day.  Will Kwok and Jacobo Herrero took down Matt Nicholson-Lewis and Victor Lozier, 8-6 in the No. 2 slot, followed by Jason Alabaster and Ari Davis defeating Aloua Adjenak and Bruno Sisti, 9-8 (7-5) in the top-seeded doubles slot.

Singles play proved to be just as heated as doubles, opening with a retirement at the No. 4 seed as Marchione earned a 6-0, 2-0 mark before Lozier retired to hand the Tars their fourth win of the day.  Nicholson-Lewis wasn't about to back down, picking up a quick 6-1, 6-2 win in the second seed, defeating Christesen to set the overall mark at 4-1 in favor of the Tars.

Verberne brought Saint Leo to within two with a win at No. 6 singles, defeating Davis 7-6 (9-7), 6-4, and Lemtouni picked up a hard fought 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Alabaster in the third flight to set the overall score at 4-3. 

Di Felice extended the Tars' lead to two as he took down Gonzalez-Tarrio, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-3, leaving an all-out duel at the top seed between No. 40 Adjenak and No. 42 Kwok.  At the end of the day, Kwok earned a hard fought win as he defeated Adjenak 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 10-8 to secure the win for the Tars.

The Saint Leo men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, April 12, when they host Palm Beach Atlantic, who will be joining the Sunshine State Conference in the 2014-15 academic year.  For more information on Saturday's match, fans can visit SaintLeoLions.com.
