Men’s Tennis Starts Fall Season at ITA South Region Championships

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Ismail Lemtouni and Joan Soler advanced to the Saturday Round of 16 as the Lions kicked off the 2013-14 season at the ITA South Region Championships hosted by the University of West Florida on Friday night.  In total, six Lions opened up play against South Region opponents in the first competition of the season.

In opening play, five of six Lions advanced into the Round of 32 as Sisti and Soler continued on.  Lemtouni defeated West Alabama Anton Ivanov 7-6, 2-6, 10-3 in a tight match and will face West Florida's Alex Peyrot on Saturday.  Soler, playing in his first competition for the Green and Gold, defeated Lynn's Alessio Iannozzi 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 in another match that went the full distance. 

Half of the Lions competitors played in the opening round, while the other three received byes into the Round of 32. 

Doubles action saw two of the three doubles teams advance into the second round.  Unfortunately the Lions could not push on into the quarterfinals with both teams bowing out in the Round of 16.

The Lions will return to the court on Saturday as they continue action at the ITA South Region Championship hosted by West Florida.
