Lions Set New Program Mark with No. 8 Ranking in Final ITA Standings

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Mark another noteworthy moment down for Coach James Bryce and the Saint Leo men's tennis team as the Lions finished 2013 ranked eighth in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings released earlier this week.  The eighth place ranking marks the highest-ever finish for the men's tennis program at Saint Leo.

In the South Region rankings the Lions also made some headway, finishing fourth in the final standings.  The Lions finished behind Barry, West Florida and Lynn but are ahead of noteworthy programs along the likes of Rollins, Valdosta State and Florida Southern.

Maintaining a spot in individual rankings, Aloua Adjenak finished 20th in the ITA for Division II.  Adjenak also earned All-Conference First Team honors courtesy of a 13-6 overall record while going 4-2 in SSC play entirely at No. 1 singles. Facing the conference's top competitors, the native of Paris, France's most notable wins came against the then seventh-ranked Marco Mokrzycki, the SSC's Player of the Year.  Playing the entirety of his season at the top singles spot, he dominated his position, gaining three victories against nationally-ranked opponents.

Adjenak also represented the Lions in the South Region where he was ranked sixth.

After wrapping up another successful campaign, Coach Bryce and the Lions participated in another NCAA South Region Tournament, advancing to the championship match before falling to the eventual National Champs in Barry University.  The Lions went 16-7 on the season, finishing second in the conference while continuing to further the notoriety of the Saint Leo men's tennis program.
