No. 15 Men’s Tennis Ends Season with Regional Championship Loss to No. 2 Barry
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The No. 15 Saint Leo University men's tennis season came to an end in the NCAA South Region 1 Championship as the Lions fell to second-ranked Barry University 5-0 from the Buccaneers Tennis Center on Monday afternoon. The Buccaneers remain undefeated and advance to the National Championships in Surprise, Ariz. while the Lions end their season 16-7 and finish in the Region's final.
"These guys have battled all season and now had the most successful season in men's tennis history," Head Coach James Bryce said. "With the win yesterday they should finish top 10 in the nation. Barry is a tough team this year and they deserve their nationals finish today. We return all six starters next year so the future is bright for this team with a wealth of experience."
Barry (25-0) dominated throughout the entire match, starting with doubles as the Buccaneers look to take their undefeated record to Arizona for the National Tournament.
Despite the loss, Saint Leo will return to campus with another NCAA Tournament trip under their collective belt while the Lions look to finish in the top 10 in the ITA standings after the year has concluded.
