No. 15 Men’s Tennis Muscles Past Southern Indiana, 6-3
SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 15th-ranked Saint Leo men's tennis team passed a tough March test on Sunday afternoon as the Lions defeated visiting Southern Indiana 6-3 in pre-Spring Break action at the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
In doubles action, the Lions (9-3) picked up wins at No.1 and No. 2 doubles where Matt Nicholson-Lewis and Bruno Sisti, and Ismail Lemtouni and Jake Fleischer defeated their Southern Indiana opponents by similar 8-4 scores. Unfortunately, a 9-7 decision against the Lions at No. 3 doubles prevented them from sweeping the tandem action.
Moving into singles, the nationally ranked Lions consisting of Aloua Adjenak (#21) and Nicholson-Lewis (#29) managed to rally for back-to-back wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, but Saint Leo would drop decisions at No. 3 and No. 4.
Needing a victory at one of the two final positions, Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio put the match into the favor of the Green and Gold with a 6-3, 6-0 match victory. Antoine Raffaelli squared things away at No. 6 as his opponent retired in the second set.
The Lions, winners of four-straight, will now head into a 10-day break before next facing West Chester on Wednesday, March 20. The match is scheduled to get underway at 11:00 a.m. at the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
