Lions Finish Strong at USTA/ITA Regional Championships

LAKELAND, Fla. – Ismail Lemtouni reached the Flight A Consolation Championship round of the USTA/ITA Regional Championships, Saturday afternoon from Wynee Warden Tennis Center on the campus of Florida Southern. His title hopes were dashed however as he had to withdraw to injury, awarding the championship to Jorge Gutierrez of Florida Tech.

The Lions also their two quarterfinalists get tripped up as Aloua Adjenak retired due to injury in his match with Barry's Marco Mokrzycki, 4-3. Matt Nicholson-Lewis also saw a tough match fall his opponents way as  Bruno Savi of West Florida earned a 7-6, 6-1 win.

On the doubles side, Nicholson-Lewis and Victor Lozier fell just short in their semifinal clash with West Florida's Kevin Durcos and Tony Rajaobelina, 8-4.

Both the men's and women's teams will resume fall competition on Friday, October 5, when they travel to Winter Park, Fla. to compete in the Varner Memorial Classic, hosted by Rollins College.
