Adjenak, Nicholson-Lewis Advance at USTA/ITA South Regional Championship
LAKELAND, Fla. – Juniors Aloua Adjenak and Matt Nicholson-Lewis continue to make their mark in one of the toughest fall tournaments in the country as they each advanced to the quarterfinal round of the USTA/ITA Regional Championships, Friday afternoon from Wynee Warden Tennis Center on the campus of Florida Southern. Additionally, the tandem of Nicholson-Lewis and Victor Lozier etched their place in the Flight One doubles semifinals.
On the singles side, however, Adjenak battled back from a one set deficit to defeat Rollins' Adrian di Felice, 6-7 (7-5), 6-1, 6-3. Meanwhile, Nicholson-Lewis controlled his match from the onset downing Florida Southern's Benoit Paradis in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Adjenak will challenge the top-seeded Marco Mokrzycki from Barry, while Nicholson-Lewis will challenge West Florida's Bruno Savi.
Ismail Lemtouni joined in on the winning ways collecting a Flight A Consolation victory over Eckerd's Stephen Felman, 6-0, 6-4. He will challenge Florida Tech's Patrick Hernandez on Saturday.
After going to tiebreak in Thursday's Round of 16, Nicholson-Lewis and Lozier left no doubt in asserting who was the better doubles team in Friday's quarterfinal match-up with Rollins' Jason Alabaster and Cooper Maxwell, downing the pair, 8-5. The win puts the Lions' duo in the semifinals against West Florida's Kevin Durcos and Tony Rajaobelin.
The men will return to the court for semifinal action at the USTA/ITA South Regional Championship on Saturday, September 29, at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center on the campus of Florida Southern.
