SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No.18-ranked Saint Leo men's tennis team (1-1) earned its first shutout of the 2012 season as they defeated regional foe Palm Beach Atlantic, 9-0, Saturday afternoon from the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
The Lions swept through the doubles portion, before controlling each of the six singles matches.
On the doubles side, Aloua Adjenak and Jake Fleisher highlighted the team's efforts with an 8-1 win at No.2 doubles. Meanwhile, the nationally ranked tandem of Matt Nicholson-Lewis and Victor Lozier over-powered their opponents, 8-3, while Antoine Raffaelli and Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio completed the impressive performance with a convincing 8-3 win at the No.3 slot.
Singles brought even more success to the Lions' bunch as they posted six straight wins, including a pair of shutouts. Gonzalez-Tarrio registered the first of the two shutout wins at No.4 singles as he blanked his opponent, 6-0, 6-0. That mark was later equaled at the No.6 position as Fleischer defeated Jaime Verd in consecutive sets.
On the men's performance, Head Coach James Bryce stated, "The men played with a lot of intensity today. I'm proud of their performance in collecting their first win of 2012."
The Lions will return to action on Sunday, February 5, as they head to Lake Wales, Fla. to take on Warner in a non-region match. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
