Bryce Declares No.18 Men’s Tennis Regular Season Schedule

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Head Tennis Coach James Bryce has formally announced his men's 2012 regular season schedule. In total, the Lions will compete in 22 matches, highlighted by 13 home contests and a four-game road swing through Alabama.

Additionally, the Lions will participate in 15 regional contests, challenge five 2011 nationally-ranked opponents, and clash within their customary six-team Sunshine State Conference schedule.

The postseason is scheduled to begin on April 18 as the Lions will prepare for the SSC Tournament (Apr. 18-22). The NCAA South Region Tournament and the NCAA Championships will follow in early May.

"The men will play a highly competitive schedule this year which will challenge them both physically and mentally," said Bryce. "We host a series of the nation's best, including tests against Armstrong Atlantic and Columbus State. However, our main goal is to perform at our finest during the conference slate and build momentum as we move towards the SSC and NCAA Tournaments. If we play our best each time we get on the court than I feel we can achieve many of our goals."

The Lions will open the campaign by hosting back-to-back regional contests. First Saint Leo will welcome in perennial national title contender Armstrong Atlantic (Feb. 2), before hosting Palm Beach Atlantic (Feb. 4).

Following a trip to NAIA's Warner (Feb. 5), the Lions will open SSC action in a home quarrel with Barry (Feb. 11).  A non-conference home date with Eckerd (Feb. 15) gives way to a three-game road trip as the Lions will challenge conference opponent Lynn (Feb. 18), St. Thomas (Feb. 19), and Florida Tech (Feb. 24). Saint Leo will close-out its February schedule in a home conference clash with Rollins (Feb. 28).

The Lions find themselves on the road to begin March as they travel to Alabama. The four-game swing is longest road trip of the season and has Saint Leo taking on regional foes Stillman (Mar. 2), North Alabama and Delta State (Mar. 3) in a rare doubleheader, and Alabama-Huntsville (Mar. 4).

The road trip soon gives way to the Lions longest home stretch of the season as they take on seven-straight opponents at the Saint Leo Tennis Center. Visits from Columbus State (Mar. 9), Florida Southern (Mar. 29) and New Orleans (Mar. 31), will highlight the Lions month-long stay at home.

One final road match sees the Lions travel to St. Petersburg to battle Eckerd (Apr. 10) in the team's conference finale. The Lions will close the regular season with a Senior Day confrontation against Embry-Riddle (Apr. 14).
