Saint Leo, Fla. (April 3, 2008) – The Saint Leo men’s tennis team (3-12, 0-5 SSC) was blanked by the Florida Southern College Moccasins (11-5, 2-2 SSC) Thursday afternoon at the SLU Tennis Complex.

In doubles competition, Florida Southern jumped out to quick start as the Mocs’ pair of Michael Knoedler and Roman Schirmaier rallied past the Lions’ duo of Brandon Stacey (Sr., Galesburg, Ill.) and Saif Noorsumar (Sr., Karachi, Pakistan) 8-3. Mocs’ No. 2 team of Guenther Fercher and Alex Thesleff nullified the Lions tandem of Ali El Naamani (Grad., Saida, Lebanon) and Diego Timoteo (So., Brazil) any of any points, shutting the pair out 8-0. The No.3 pair of Pablo Chavez (Fr., Margarita, Venezuela) and Michael DelPriore (Sr., Englewood, Fla.) gave the Lions their best chance in doubles competition but the effort wasn’t enough, as they fell to the Mocs’ Justin LaFlamme and Gregg Heartt 8-6.

Singles action didn’t fair much better for the Lions, as Florida Southern finished off the sweep. In the No.1 singles spot, Chavez succumbed to Schirmaier 6-4, 6-1. In the No.2 spot Stacey fought a valiant first set but lost the match 7-5, 6-1. In the No. 3 singles position, El Naamani fell to Fercher 6-3, 6-0. At the No.5, DelPriore dropped his match to Taylor 6-0, 6-4. Timoteo lost his match to Johnson at the No. 5 position 6-2, 6-2.
