Lakeland, Fla. (February 25, 2008) – The Saint Leo men’s tennis team (1-6) lost to the # 13 Florida Southern Moccasins (2-0) Monday afternoon in Lakeland, Fla. The Lions’ men fell in singles action 6-0 and then were swept by the Mocs in doubles play, 3-0.

While the Lions were swept on the afternoon there were some bright spots for Saint Leo. The Lions received impressive individual performances in singles action by the likes of Saif Noorsumar (Sr., Karachi, Pakistan) and Michael DelPriore (Sr. Englewood, Fla.). Noorsumar made his match with Guennther Ferchar very entertaining as he was able to make both sets respectable. In the first set Noorsumar fell 6-3, but would storm back to push Ferchar as far as he could go before falling to the Mocs number three player 7-5. DelPriore would also make a charge at his opponent but would eventually slip, falling 6-4, 6-4 to Justin LaFlamme in an fast-paced match-up between number five players.

In doubles action, the duo of Brandon Stacey (Sr., Galesburg, Ill.) and Saif Noorsumar took on the top Moccasins pair of Michael Knoedler and Roman Schirmaier. The Lions team held court with the Moccasins for most of the match but could not keep up with the Mocs in the points column as the Lions duo fell 8-5.  After winning their first competition of the season last week against Northwood University, the Lions have lost two straight.

The Lions return home on Thursday, February 28 to take on the Rollins College Tars in non-conference action. The match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
