Babson Park, Fla. (February 6, 2008) – The Saint Leo University men’s tennis team (0-1) came up short on its visit over to Webber International University on Wednesday afternoon, as the Warriors took down the Lions 7-2 to open the 2008 regular season.

In singles actions the Lions scored one of their two wins on the day as Ali El Naamani (Grad., Saida, Lebanon) took down Leigh Griffiths (6-3, 6-3).  The Lions had multiple opportunities to win matches but couldn’t come up with enough shots to combat Webber’s attack. Brandon Stacey (Sr., Galesburg, Ill.) had a narrow loss in his match as he fell 6-7 and 7-6 and Mike DelPriore (Sr., Englewood, Fla.) won the first set of his match 7-6 but fell 2-6 in the second set and then lost the tiebreaker 9-11.

In Lions’ doubles action, Brandon Stacey and Saif Noorsumar (Sr., Karachi, Pakistan) defeated the Webber pairing of Phillipe Andermatt and Ignacio Cachan 8-2.  The doubles pairing of Neil Watson and Pablo Chavez (Fr., Margarita, Venezuela) fought hard but couldn’t muster enough crucial shots as they fell 6-8.

The Lions stay on the road as they head down to Palm Beach Atlantic February 8th for a 3:00 p.m. match-up with the Sailfish.
