SAINT LEO, Fla. – There was no better way for the Saint Leo men's swim team to send off its senior class and prepare for the upcoming Sunshine State Conference Championships then the script that was written on Saturday afternoon as the Lions defeated Rollins 169-87 in SSC action from the Bowman Pool deck.
After honoring four outgoing men's seniors: Patrick Ceddia, Milton Alberto-Requejo, Michael Marino and Gabe Keown, the Lions went to work, with their A relay team of Rhet Rheinlander, Jose De Jesus, Vashaad Fincher and Dillon Kasson winning the 200 IM Relay by nearly a second and a half.
When everything was said and done, Kasson won the 200 Free, Matheus Assis racked up a trio of nice individual wins in the 100 Back, 100 Free and 100 Fly while also on the A relay team alongside Alberto-Requejo, Niclas Bez and Valentin Lenz in claiming the 200 Free Relay.
De Jesus claimed the 100 Breaststroke title and Rheinlander left the rest of the field in the dust, winning the 200 Back by almost 13 seconds. Alberto-Requejo tried to keep up with his teammate on podium visits as he touched first in the 50 Free and the 500 Free, just one victory shy of Assis for the team-high on the day.
In total, it was a solid outing for the Lions as the tune up for the Conference Championships is now fully underway.
The Lions will have nearly a month to prepare for the Sunshine State Conference Championship which will kick off on Feb. 19 in Orlando at the YMCA Aquatic Center.
