FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's swim team set new Sunshine State Conference records and represented well in the second day of the four-day NSU Shark Invitational as the Lions totaled 246 points and held their fifth place standing in the eight-team meet.
The highlight of the day belonged to Matheus Assis as he dominated to 100 Fly, breaking the SSC record with a time of 48.32 and a first place finish. The top result was also an NCAA 'B' cut qualifying time.
Assis's performance overshadowed an outstanding effort from Gabe Keown in the same event as he finish 12th in the finals with a time of 51.39.
Staying with the individual competition, Patrick Ceddia finished eighth in the 200 Free with a time of 1:40.38, which is also potentially a 'B' cut as well. Dillon Kasson finished 19th in the same event with a time of 1:45.64.
With the day's schedule of events holding two relays including the 200 Free and 400 Medley the Lions saw the 'A' relay group of Assis, Keown, Ceddia and Milton Alberto-Requejo turned heads in the 200 Free finals with a time of 1:22.18, good enough for a third place result. The 'B' relay grouping of Kasson, Rhet Rheinlander, Vashaad Fincher and Michael Marino touched in 10th place with a time of 1:26.45.
Reinlander, Fincher, Kasson and Jose De Jesus teamed up to place 10th in the 400 Medley touching with a time of 3:32.63.
At the halfway point of the biggest pre-conference meet of the season, the Lions will be back at the NSU Aquatics Center for the first competition of Day 3 at around 9:30 a.m.
