Lions Open Up NSU Shark Invitational in Fifth Place
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's swim team opened up the four-day NSU Shark Invitational as the Lions totaled 104 points and currently sit in fifth place in the eight-team meet.
In completing the first eight events (four men's events) the Lions saw Matheus Assis win the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 20.02 seconds, good for an NCAA 'B' Cut time and an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
The 50 free was a men's team highlight on the day as both Milton Alberto-Requejo and Gabe Keown joined Assis in the A final with Alberto-Requejo (20.97) finishing eighth and Keown touching 10th (21.06).
In the day's distance event Dillon Kasson qualified for the finals of the 1000 yard freestyle where he finished 22nd with a time of 10:07.53.
On the relay side, the Lions 'A' relay team of Assis, Keown, Alberto-Requejo and Vashaad Fincher finished fifth in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:34.02. The 'B' relay team of Kasson, Rhet Rheinlander, Jose De Jesus and Michael Marino finished at 1:37.15 and in 13th place.
The Lions will be back at the NSU Aquatics Center for the first competition of Day 2 at around 9:30 a.m.
