Men’s Swimming Drops Season-Opener to Florida Tech, 131-74

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The start to the 2013-14 season for the Saint Leo men's swim team caught a rough patch as the Lions dropped a 131-74 decision to Florida Tech in a meet that was hosted at Lynn University.

Despite the setback, the Lions saw impressive performances from experienced veterans Matheus Assis, Milton Alberto-Requejo and Rhet Rheinlander.  Assis, coming off his NCAA appearance last season, claimed twin victories on the day, posting a 21.00 in the 50 Free and following that with a 52.60 in the 100 Fly.

Alberto-Requejo followed his teammate's win with a victory of his own in the following event, picking up the 100 Free triumph behind a 47.25 finish.  Rheinlander's speedy performance in the 100 Back, where he posted a 54.35 finish, saw him beat the second-place finisher from FIT by a slim 0.2 seconds.

The Lions now look toward their home opener when they welcome Nova Southeastern into the Bowman Aquatic Center next weekend.  The Lions and Sharks will get things started at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
