Records Falls, but Lions Nipped by Sharks, 130-74

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's swimming team (1-1), despite breaking two program records, fell to Nova Southeastern University, 130-74, Saturday afternoon from the NSU Aquatics Center.

Fresh off of a record-breaking performance in the team's opening meet, Pawel Trenda held true to his Conference and National Swimmer of the Week honors as he broke the program's record in the 400 Individual Medley by 13 seconds. Saint Leo also registered a record-breaking performance in the 200 Yard Freestyle Medley at a time of 1:24.04.

The Lions, taking on the defending SSC champions, opened the race with a win the 400 Yard Medley Relay as the quartet posted a time of 3:28.81, winning by three seconds.

Saint Leo' Matheus Assis then won the eighth event of the day as he out-touched Esau Simpson by seven-tenths of a second at 21.17.

Following Trenda's win in the 400 IM, Milton Requejo blew past the field with a first-place victory in the 100 Yard Freestyle at a time of 46.59.

Finally, in the 200 Yard Freestyle, the group of Assis, Trenda, Requejo, and Gabe Keown defeated five other teams to break the program record as they clocked in at 1:24.08, three seconds faster than their nearest opponents.

Still, the race-wins weren't enough as NSU paced the competition with six event victories.

Saint Leo will return to the pool on Saturday, October 27, when they travel to Winter Park, Fla. to take on the Rollins College Tars. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m. from the Alfond Swimming Pool.
