SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo men's swimmer Pawel Trenda was named Counsilman-Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmers-of-the-Week for the Week of October 8-14, 2012, it was announced on Wednesday.
Trenda, a freshman from Oswiecim, Poland, collected two individual victories and set a program record in Saint Leo's season-opening win over Florida Tech. Competing in the 200-yard Individual Medley, Trenda registered a time of 1:53.47. His mark beat the previous Saint Leo 200 IM record by 3.5 seconds. He also posted a victory in the 100-yard butterfly as he touched the wall with a time of 50.96. The showing was just five-tenths slower than the men's program record.
The reigning Sunshine State Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week, Trenda's 200IM time was the fastest in the country, while his 100 Butterfly time was the third fastest.
It marks the second time in school history that Saint Leo has earned National Collegiate Swimmers-of-the-Week honors.
Selections are based on nominations received by Noon (CST) each Monday and from the statistical performance results submitted by teams.
The Lions will resume action Saturday, October 20, when they travel to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. to challenge Nova Southeastern. The dual meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. from the NSU Aquatic Center.
