Lions Hold Steady in Standings after Day Three of SSC Championships

CLEARWATER, Fla. – After day three of the Sunshine State Conference Championships, the Saint Leo men's swim team remains in fourth place, posting a score of 295, and the women sit in fifth with a score of 235 after participating in the 200-Yard Medley Relay, 400-IM, 100-Yard Butterfly, 200-Free, 100-Breaststroke, and 100-Yard Backstroke events at the Long Center in Clearwater, Fla.

Nova Southeastern leads both men's and women's divisions, leading Tampa 653-620 for the women and outscoring second place Florida Southern 652-567 for the men.

The women's team saw two different squads take to the starting blocks in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.  Katie David, Kristy Marques, Lindsay Albanese, and Sarah Earls picked up a sixth place finish with a mark of 2:06.49, while the group of Allison Cary, Sandra Stopczynska, Chloe Pellican, and Bianca Muniz claimed 12th with a time of 1:52.80.

Kaitlyn Hite took home a sixth-place time of 4:45.55 in the 400-Yard IM, followed by Allison Cary in ninth (5:05.34), and Earls (5:16.64), Sarah Thompson (5:37.42), and David (6:09.91) claiming 12th, 13th, and 14th spots, respectively.

Pellican was the lone Saint Leo female swimmer in the 100-Butterfly, taking home 14th with a mark of 1:02.66.

Concluding the day for the women's team, Stopczynska took home a "B" cut time in the 100-Yard Breaststroke, finishing in 1:06.24.  Pellican, Muniz, and Marques touched in 10th through 12th, respectively, as they brought in times of 1:11.17, 1:11.83, and 1:13.48.  Thompson touched 15th, finishing at 1:23.62 to close out the competition for the Lions' women's squad for the third day.

The men's squad opened the day with a fourth place finish in the 200-Yard Medley Relay as Rhet Rheinlander, Derek Maddigan, Gabe Keown, and Tim Olson earned a NCAA "B" cut time of 1:32.69.  The foursome of Antonio Roki, Michael Cozzi, Joe Simpson, and Troy Beck touched with a time of 1:37.79 in the B-Final, finishing 12th overall.

In the 400-Yard IM, Michael Marino and Rheinlander finished 11th and 13th, respectively, with times of 4:22.99, and 4:31.06.  Marino also collected 14th in the 200-Yard Breaststroke, finishing at 1:02.45. 

Olson touched at the 50.39 mark in the 100-Yard Butterfly, earning NCAA "B" standards, and finishing fifth in the event.  Keown grabbed 11th in the same event, hitting the wall with a time of 51.56.

Cozzi finished eighth in the 200-Yard Free event, finishing with a "B" standard time of 1:41.27.  Carl Roycroft and Derek Maddigan, finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 100-Yard Breaststroke, touching with times of 58.42, and 59.16.

Rounding out the day were Rheinlander, Roki, and Beck in the 100-Yard Breaststroke.  Rheinlander took ninth with a mark of 52.19, followed by Roki at 13th (53.97), and Beck at 15th (55.40).
